The
Nerve Centre Creative Learning Centre, Derry
 |
The
Creative Learning Centre is the educational model that the Nerve
Centre has developed to bring digital creativity into the heart
of the curriculum. There are three Creative Learning Centres in
Northern Ireland: The Nerve Centre in Derry, Studio On in Belfast,
and The Amma Centre in Armagh. The Creative Learning Centres provide
an extensive outreach programme of workshops, projects, screenings
and teacher training courses for key subjects on the curriculum,
including English, History, Art & Design, ICT, Music, Geography,
EMU and Citizenship. |
| The
Nerve Centre has created a number of educational CD-Roms that draw
together colourful graphics, photographs, animation, video, audio
and music into a stimulating learning experience. The Centre has also
produced a number of short films and animations and educational support
material. All of these resources are available for use by educationalists. |
The
Ulster Wean’s
A-Z: Spaces and Places

The
Ulster Wean’s A-Z of Spaces and Places aims to facilitate
teaching of ‘The World Around Us’, combining aspects
of Geography, History, Science & Technology and
Cultural Diversity. This CD-Rom offers children opportunities to
explore, investigate and think about their world, past, present
and future. This unique educational resource promotes understanding
of how different cultures celebrate, what changes the seasons of
the year bring, sporting traditions and festivals. Examples include
Christmas, Football, Rugby, Conkers, Birth Customs, Fasting and
Harvest Feasting.

| Animating
Columba
|
Animating
Columba is an educational CD-Rom for primary schools covering a
range of curriculum core skills including literacy, ICT and creativity.
This interactive resource uses different styles of animation to
explore the legends of the famous Irish saint and scholar. Pupils
can gain a real insight into the artistic life of Irish monasteries
through a range of creative activities. Animating Columba promotes
creative learning across a range of curriculum subjects from R.E.
and History to English and Art. Pupils are introduced to the world
of a 6th century monastery, visiting the Scriptorium where manuscripts
were produced and the Church where religious services were held.
|
|
They will follow in the footsteps of Columba and hear interactive
stories such as the encounter between Columba and the Loch Ness Monster.
The CD-Rom offers engagement with creative activities such as colouring
in pages of the Book of Kells, creating a musical celtic cross and
editing extracts from an animated film on the life of Columba created
by Eglinton and Craigbrack primary schools. |
| Cu
Chulainn Animated Series

this Celtic character. Funded by the Community Relations Council,
the series explores the life and times of Cu Chulainn from when
he was born, to
